Hi, I’m Sven Heijbel and I want to change the world. Doing so is vital for the life of virtually every organism on this planet, including humankind. I need no better reason for doing my best in this arena.
While the ultimate goal must be global sustainable development, our energy must now be focused on solving the disruption of our climate. The challenge is to dramatically cut green house gas emissions while handling the consequences of the harm already done, especially in the poorer countries.
My role in all this is at the moment twofold as I am part of two different initiatives aiming to push global society into a low carbon state. The first project, launched by WWF (World Wide Fund for nature) is called “Voyage for the Future” and includes a trip to the Arctic before communicating the need for climate action to public, politicians and companies. The other one is initiated by British Council and is called “Challenge Europe”. The goal is to have 200 young Europeans create some 40 productive ideas in one year, concretely contributing to a low carbon future.
I’m also studying my first year of Human Ecology at Lund’s University in Sweden, analyzing global environmental and justice problems in an interdisciplinary manner. Unfortunately the need of such analysis has never been greater.
I will share my thoughts, experiences and impressions from the events above, hopefully making you realize how urgent it is for you to put the climate crisis on the top of your political agenda. We as global citizens must create a public opinion that lets our leaders take the decisions needed to prevent mass starvation, thirst, and suffering. This is simply democracy!
